“HOME SWEET HOME” TRAVELLING: SHOULD YOUR PET STAY OR GO?

PLANNING A TRIP?

Pet owners planning to travel for business or pleasure have an important decision to make.  Should you take your companion animals along or leave them at home.  While we know how tempting it may be to take them along, you have to consider that some animals are not suited to travel due to temperament, illness, or physical impairment.

The most humane approach is to think of the animals needs first.  You may think that your dog won’t be able to tolerate separation from you and taking him is a good idea.  But if you are vacationing, will you have to leave him in a hotel room or strange kennel?  This will make your pet more anxious than ever, so finding a good, experienced pet sitter and leaving your pet in his own home would probably be a better choice!

*Thanks to the Humane Society for being such an outstanding resource for people and their pets!

FOODS YOU DOG SHOULD NEVER EAT #11

YOUR MEDICINE:

Reaction to a drug commonly prescribed for humans is the most common cause of poisoning in dogs.  Just as you would do for your children, keep all medicines out of your dog’s reach.  Never give your dog any over-the-counter medicine unless told to do so by your vet.

SUGARY FOODS and DRINKS:

Too much sugar can do the same things to dogs that it does to humans.  It can lead to obesity, dental problems, and possibly the onset of diabetes.

FOODS YOUR DOG SHOULD NEVER EAT #7

RAW EGGS:

There are two problems with giving your dog raw eggs.  The first is the possibility of food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli.  The second is that an enzyme in raw eggs interferes with the absorption of a particular B vitamin.  This can cause skin problems as well as problems with your dog’s coat if raw eggs are fed for a long time.  Home Sweet Home Pet Sitters wants you to keep that special member of the family healthy!
